“We walked down to the pool for a swim, and a soak in
the spa. One of the dads at the resort,
Matt, was playing in the water with four children – baby, three, five, and
ten. It was such fun watching a naked
family at play in the water. The
three-year-old was especially fun. He
was so unconsciously natural splashing, looking through the fence, and playing
hide-and-seek from his dad. Mom was also
in and around the pool area.” - From my past kenfreehiker blog

“I did take two hikes in La Jolla . . . at Black's
Beach. . . Once at the bottom of the trail to Black's I dropped the clothes and
started my free hiking. It is a flat
hike, but barefoot in the sand is quite nice. I hiked north all the way to where the
textiles started showing up from the north right near that metal buoy that is
on the beach. . . about a mile or so in each direction, so a good two miles
nude hiking each day. Wearing only my
shorts on the hill it was a lovely two days. I spent an extra hour in the sun each day.” –

“. . . we flew to bustling Sao Paulo [Brazil] and met
up with . . . friends. Together we went
down to a wonderful beach on Fortaleza Bay . . . Since we were with
non-naturist friends, I feared that I would not have any opportunity for
naturism, but one afternoon I was the only one interested in taking a hike
along the forested coastline, and my opportunity materialized. As soon as I hit the trail . . . I took my
clothes off. . . I arrived at . . . a beautiful deserted sandy beach backed by
mountains and forest. There was one
couple already there (topless, I think), so I put on my shorts to walk past
them. At the far end of the beach I
continued nude up the trail which rises to the crest of the peninsula before
descending on the other side to a small fishing village. At the crest I turned around and walked back
. . . I had the entire beach to myself.
After a relaxed swim, I hiked nude all the way back. Along the way I took a side trail that led to
some big rocks by the water that, when not in use by fishermen, would be great
for all-over tanning. All in all I got
to spend about three hours nude that afternoon. . . Continuing north . . . we
arrived at . . . Ibitipoca State Park. . . The centerpiece of the park is a one-sided
canyon with a fast-flowing stream making numerous waterfalls, and even cutting
through the wall at one point to make a tunnel under a natural bridge. . .
Since no one else was there, I stripped down as soon as I got out of sight of
the snack bar at the top. I freehiked
and skinny-dipped all day, exploring falls, pools, overlooks and caves in the
park, dressing only on the few occasions where I was directly within sight of
the snack bar. . . we spent one final day . . . Good Hope Farm . . . On the
property of the Fazenda are four major waterfalls on a perfectly clear,
fast-flowing stream. We were the only
guests, so I was able to enjoy all the trails and the swimming holes as nature
intended. It was a perfect ending to a
satisfying naturist adventure.” - Milt

“The roots of cultural opposition to nudity in Western
civilization go back at least two thousand years to the ancient near East. . .
Except sometimes for poverty or servitude, no other association with nudity is
recognized except for sexuality. Hence
nudity itself if considered to be inherently ‘lewd’, ‘indecent’, and ‘immoral’.
. . This cultural prejudice certainly has to be opposed by education and
positive messages about nudity. The
prevailing opinion about nudity itself has to be changed, so that it is rightly
understood as something wholesome, pleasurable, enjoyable, rewarding, relaxing,
and just plain ‘good’ in and of itself, rather than a sexual adventure.” - https://www.facebook.com/groups/nuddism/

“Society has applied so much its ideal body distorting
mirror that body shame got into our minds slowly. When you go to a nudist beach or a nudist
resort, you immediately realize there are very few, if any, perfect bodies. All naturists are men and women who accept
their own body as it is. They can
practice sports, eat healthy and take care of themselves, but they do not hide
their body flaws being a clothing armor.

the surprise was there were very few people there . . . I removed as much

naked would be no problem at all. The

MINGUS
MOUNTAIN FREEHIKE
On Tuesday (9?19/2017) three NAZ members freehiked the Mingus Mountain Trail. Dan, Jeff, and I parked in the normal parking place, got ready for the hike, and started down the area we had left unimproved (so it would remain private). Soon we reached the cliffs where we undressed and left our clothes while we enjoyed the trail au natural. (The trail is so private you can safely enjoy it without a net.) We noticed many wild flowers and butterflies as we walked the slightly-uphill trail, which passed along a dry wash (the trail crosses this several times) and up a beautiful canyon filled with old-growth forest. Much of the trail is in cool shade, but the occasional sun felt marvelous on our bodies. After hiking a mile or so we stopped at a log picnic area to enjoy a quick lunch. Then, we walked up the trail a little further until we reach an area that needed more clearing, where we turned around and freehiked back to the cliff and our clothes. Soon, we returned to our cars, the end of a very enjoyable and private freehike.

Neither of which is a valid reason to force honest citizens like me to

“I've got nothing against nudist clubs and resorts,
they provide opportunities for social nudism and as they're screened off they
provide places where those who are less confident to be nude socially can enjoy
nudism. However, I too have fears that
nudism is being driven behind closed doors as it were. We've lost a number of well-known nude
beaches and other places where nudity was pretty much widely accepted. There still are many places where we can be
nude outside, but I'd hate to find that one day if we want to meet nudist
friends the only places we can be nude together are in our homes, somewhere we
have to pay to take our clothes off with peace of mind, or in very isolated
spots in the country where we're unlikely to be seen naked.” – Nik Nudist, https://www.truenudists.com/groups/view.php?action=viewthread&id=226&idt=108359&page=last

“To be a nudist is how life was meant to be . . . Many
people . . . choose this lifestyle simply because it is the one place that is

simply natural beauty at its finest—free of judgment. Individuals of all shapes and sizes come out,
so it truly is an environment where one can feel at ease and free of the normal
societal issues. We were born naked and
it is simply a freeing and liberating experience. . . people often think it is
some sort of orgy or sexual club . . . It’s actually the furthest from
that. It's a place where one can come
and just be at one with nature, their surroundings and the very friends they

“Nudity is now found just about everywhere in our
culture, due chiefly . . . to the powerful and pervasive influence of Madison
Avenue and Hollywood. They have made
nudity an integral part of much of what they produce for viewing by society at
large. Partial nudity (usually very
provocative) is often present in advertising.
Complete nudity is no longer a surprise at the movie theater. The nudity of soft- and hard-core pornography
is finding more and more public acceptance.
Nudity is even becoming a part of highly rated television dramas. Whether it's welcomed or not, nudity has
become a fast-growing component of our culture. . . But what kind of social
convention is nudity turning out to be?
A good one or a bad one? Many
religious and community leaders as well as some lawmakers clearly view it as
bad. If they've based their decision
solely upon the media's portrayal of nudity (which is quite likely), perhaps
it's not surprising that they feel as they do.” - http://www.figleafforum.com/articles_redeeming_nakedness.html

“I don’t think there’s anything inherently
transgressive about taking your clothes off (after all, we do it every day of
our lives), but the fact of the matter is that we live in a society where
nudity in public is still seen as the Original Sin, something still quite
shocking and taboo, despite most of us leading predominantly secular lives. . .
So why do we struggle so much with revealing our bodies and why is it still so
uncommon to hang out with your friends in your ‘birthday suit’ on a Saturday
night? I think there’s something deeply
significant about our discomfort with nakedness that in some ways ties in too
much of what’s wrong in our society.
There’s something about needing to cover up what is natural, to need to
dress into a role or to feel that how we are really, underneath the covering,
is somehow ‘not okay’. This stems from,
and perpetuates, our sense of separateness – from the environment, from each
other, and even from ourselves and our true nature – that is, I think, at the
heart of the current malaise.” – Anna Levy, https://pioneerpitstop.wordpress.com/2016/09/03/how-to-be-naked/

“. . . while women’s unclothed bodies are on display
everywhere from The Metropolitan Museum of Art to HBO, images of nude men are
way harder to come by. Sure, depicting a
naked body can lead to objectification and sexualization . . . But a powerful
nude representation also has the power to be empowering, liberating, and, of
course, beautiful. In 2012, photographer
Abigail Ekue embarked on a mission to photograph the unclothed male body in a
truthful, expressive and direct manner, a style Ekue saw was lacking in the
larger cultural lexicon. ‘I wanted
something different from the studio-based bodyscapes or flexing physique male
nudes’ . . . everyday images of bodies at rest ― bodies that are imperfect,
vulnerable, normal. . . Thus far, she has snapped almost 500 photographs of men
sans clothing . . . a real person, desirable yet flawed, as we all are. . .
Bare Men offers a striking range of individuals and bodies, each attractive in
its vulnerability and strength. . . for the many men whose naked bodies are
rendered invisible by mainstream culture, it becomes difficult to imagine the
possibility that their bodies could be, in and of themselves, attractive.”

pretending they are not nudists at all, never letting anyone ‘outside the
secret circle’ know what they do during their ‘private’ time, for ‘fear of
exposure’. Just imagine for one moment
how it might be if the naturist community all ‘came out naked’ at once! There would be hysteria of course at first,
and then laws would be put into place to protect naturist rights. This won't happen because so many . . . try

Nudism is not about being seen; it’s about the freedom to accept
ourselves and others just as we are. We
shed uncomfortable clothing to experience the joy of feeling the sun and wind
all over us, not just on the body parts that society deems acceptable to be
seen. Nudists are normal people with
jobs, families, joys and sorrows. We are
young, old, thin, fat, Black, Asian, Caucasian, gay and straight. We are not judgmental about others, contrary
to what you may think. We don't
critique, grade, categorize, or dismiss you based on your body shape and
size. You are what you are, and so am I. I am free to be who I am without
prejudice. Body flaws and shame cease to
close us off from living life fully because of something we cannot change. And in leaving that shame behind, we become
truly free.” – Anna, https://socalnaturist.org/membership/womenspeak.php
“Of course the laws for sexual conduct must stay in
place, but there’s really no reason why we true nudists/naturists can’t be the
real, happy people we really are. If I
feel more comfortable the less I wear and I’m not being a pervert of sexual
about it, then it should not be a big deal.
If we feel more comfortable naked, then let us be naked and happy, just
as we let other minorities come to do over the years.” - Buck, https://cloptzone.wordpress.com/2016/10/03/just-let-us-nudists-be-the-people-we-really-are/

QUOTES

“I have been a naturist since I was a child. . . It's
one of the most rewarding things is to be comfortable with yourself. . .
Naturism will always have the stereotypical negativity from some minorities
because the word 'nude' is also associated with sex. . . It baffles me when
someone is offended by a nude, human body, whether it's a female nipple, vagina
or a penis. We all have them. . . I
would love to walk down the street in my local area without the need to get dressed.
. . [Not to alarm or distress] anybody but to be myself and how I feel most
comfortable. Naturism is a natural part
of every living being. . . we naturists prefer to be nude not just for bathing
but for our comfort and wellbeing while enriching our confidence in the
process. . . naturism offers respect to
everybody and no human body is disgusting.
These prudish minorities should respect us back. . . Life is a precious
gift and so is the body. . . Each and every person is a work of art.” – Lucy Moore

“Bringing Scottish children up among nudists is the
best way to teach sex education . . .” - http://www.secularsociety.scot/sex-education-sunday-times/
“If I'm out naked walking in a textile area I will
always cover up, hopefully well before they see me, as I have respect for them,
as for looking at the law side textiles have it their way ‘I was shocked’ so
why spoil your walk as it is so easy to ‘cover up’ let them past and then carry
on as before.” – Richard, http://www.naturist-corner.net/community/index.php?topic=21282.0;topicseen
“When you are nude, you don't outwardly show what
class or social group other people belong to.
This makes it easier to approach people, without building a stereotype
about the person you’re about to meet.
Personally, I have found it easier to strike up conversations with
people twice my age, that I most likely would have never talked to if we were
clothed.” - http://www.naturismisthewayforward.com/2016/07/6-best-things-to-do-while-nude.html
“Seldom do we think of our clothes as a shield. We are all naked, always. When one picks out an outfit to wear over top
of their skin, it still reflects vulnerability; be it the suit, the tie, the
jumper, the sideways fullback baseball hat.
Seldom do we think of our clothes as a shield, rather we tend to relate
our stylistic dressings within the confines of self-expression. I understand that clothes shield us from the
elements, but to ascertain our drive to use such a practical application to
create a barrier is in my opinion, silly.” - http://www.fullydisclothed.com/duncan
