“So, why clothes free now? Well, over the past couple of years, I have
grown to love my body and the skin I’m in.
I love my curves, love handles, and stretch marks, along with every
other imperfection. My flaws show where
I’ve been and how far I have come. When
I practice yoga in clothes, I feel like I am not aware of my body or my
position and posture. Wearing clothes
24/7 is draining and makes me feel depressed.
Yes, clothes make me feel depressed because I am a very open person, and
clothes make me feel like I’m hiding a part of me, the most beautiful part of
me; my body. . . I’m healthy, happy and grateful for all of my experiences and

“Is there a way government can be any more oppressive
than by criminalizing who we are at the most natural and basic level? Government has declared that our very
existence is lewd or obscene or indecent.
And so has religion. . . which has developed prudishness to the point
where modesty seems to be its primary virtue, even over love and forgiveness
and service. Even a female's (yes, it's
always the females) bare shoulders or bellybutton are obscene . . . But the
truly obnoxious thing is that those of us being oppressed for our very
existence are happy to go along with the oppression. There are none so enslaved as those who are
complicit with their own slavery, who help the oppressors enforce the slavery
on their neighbors. (Remember neighbors,
those people whom Jesus said we should love?) . . . More and more laws keep
getting created to criminalize the human body more and more, because we already
don't have enough of a neurotic, shame-based relationship with ours and other
people's bodies in America. We are our
own slave masters.” – Marty, Facebook

cover with a sarong while still being mostly naked.” – Julia Rosien, http://www.gogirlfriend.com/julias-musings/beginners-guide-clothing-optional-travel-30850
“I don’t think nudity is unhealthy for children unless
it’s conditioned to be so by adults. I
think children can handle anything that they are taught is OK and so if
children grow up with the sense that ‘nudity is bad or scary’ then that’s what
they’ll believe. If they grow up with
the sense that “nudity is normal and human” then they will be fine with
it. Kids grow up in the bush all the
time surrounded by nudity and I’m pretty sure they’re not offended by it. With that said, I don’t think men should go

“For centuries, despite nudity in its various forms
being a prominent and accepted part of daily life and culture for many
Africans, enslavement, colonial rule, influences from Islam and Christianity,
and patriarchal systems violently upheld systems and social standards that
constrained the agency and autonomy of black people through clothing and
nudity. Civilizing missions sought to

“ . . . there is no compelling governmental interest
in suppressing my naturism. . . anti-nudity/anti-body laws have actually been
harmful to people. There is no harm in a
nude body. There is good about a nude
human body. There is no health issue
that a sit-down towel can’t cure. There
is no violation of another’s rights.
There is no danger to the public from any naturist activity, or simple
nudity. Science and studies have
overwhelmingly shut down the common argument, ‘But what about the kids’ . . .
There is only a disappearing social more that is based on some older western
religious doctrines. Ignorance, social
insecurity and laws continue to foster these mores. The dominant culture, parts of the western
religious establishments and politicians actually leave me, personally, feeling
persecuted and ripped off. It is not
just having freedom stolen, but something particularly sacred stolen. . . So,
for some of us, the practice of naturism is religion. It is rightfully supposed to be protected
from the interference of the state and those who believe differently.” – Jbee, https://thefreerangenaturist.org/2016/04/12/naturism-as-it-is-a-spiritual-value-deserves-protection/

“Being naked supports several types of freedom. Obviously . . . The burden of selecting,
storing, and laundering clothes is lessened – as well as the trouble of having
to decide what to wear. You also don’t
have to put up with the discomfort of poorly fitting clothes or irritating
fabrics. Probably even more important is
that being naked relieves one of the need to deal with social stereotypes
associated with particular clothing styles.
If you don’t wear clothes, you don’t have to worry about what is or
isn’t currently ‘stylish’, ‘fashionable’, or ‘popular’. You get to be yourself, without having to let
others control your choices.” - https://naturistphilosopher.wordpress.com/2016/06/07/is-there-a-human-need-for-being-naked/

Return to Freehiking
After 29 years of marriage I got divorced. Then remarried a California girl; I told her
I was a naturist up front, but over time she couldn’t accept that and two years
later I was single again. I returned to Northern
Utah to stay with my mom. The first week
back I took a freehike in the Wellsville Mountains (my first in two years). The amazing scenery, beautiful mountain wild
flowers, the feel of breeze and sun on my entire body - this was the way life
was meant to be. Why couldn’t others
understand? What a relief from stresses
in life! What a fantastic way for me to
understand my grief and loneliness. What
a wonderful blessing! What a memorable
freehke.

“Society has grossly overlooked the psychological,
health, environmental, and societal benefits of a nudist lifestyle . . . While
many in America desperately seek solutions for the critical problems resulting
from today’s shallow, materialistic, unsustainable, environmentally
destructive, socially isolated, emotionally disconnected, mentally stressful,
and physically sedentary consumer lifestyles . . . Naturism remains a
stepchild, isolated, hidden, shunned, and largely ignored by more popular
holistic health and wellness, community involvement, and environmental
sustainability movements. We naturists
can no longer remain silent if we wish to pass on the benefits of naturism to
larger society, maintain them for future generations, or even retain them for
ourselves. Naturism is . . . under an
attack of words, ordinances, laws, policy revisions, external political
subversion, internal organizational discord, media ridicule, and marketing
distortions. We must win this war of
words with our own true stories, our personal experiences, the benefits we have
received, the social harmony we have observed, and the respectful personal
accountability and social responsibility we have practiced. We must actively engage the movements which
have yet to mention us in meaningful discussion of the values and benefits
associated with the practice of naturism. . . It is time to come out of the
closet, grab the microphone, and make our voices heard! We must do this, not only for our own good,
but for the healing of our larger society which only becomes possible when
truly broader and more inclusive holistic sustainable lifestyle alternatives
and public policy options are brought to the table. . . the least we can do
when find good information resources about naturism is sharing it - not only
among other naturists, but among friends, family, etc. I believe the majority of people are not
against naturism, just uninformed and/or misinformed.” – African American

“. . . the International Olympic Committee has decided

One such event: Olympic Beach Volleyball. . . Rio de Janeiro got its
first official nude beach in November of 2014, after activists lobbied for

You guessed it: To play volleyball in the buff. The nude beach where Nude Olympic Beach

The beach is located about 35 miles from downtown Rio. . . Brazilian
sunbathers call Abrico the perfect nudist spot . . . The beach has beautiful

only to put it back on at our first hotel and I put it on to check in, bring

EARLY FREEHIKING MEMORIES
After my first freehike at age 52, I
took every opportunity to freehike the foothills and mountains in and around
Parowan and Paragonah, Utah. I particularly
remember freehikes in the foothills and mountains above town, such as Valentine
Peak. I explored the nearby washes nude. I hiked nude through higher mountain
valleys. One January was warm enough
that I freehiked 18 times. I never ran
into anyone. In fact, I seldom even saw
other’s footprints. I learned to totally
love being naked in the outdoors.
However, these were all solo
freehikes. I still feared being with
others.
I did share my hikes with others
through the Internet, and one fellow from some distance away followed my
directions to what I had named “Staircase Canyon” and enjoyed freehiking
there. He reported that he had left me a
message, so I looked for it on my next freehike in that area. He had placed rocks in a pattern spelling “HIKEN”
at the end of the trail. That message
was still visible the last time I freehiked that area.

“Some people think that nudist venues are a branch of
some kind of black market, that they keep their lifestyles secret and unknown
to law enforcement for fear of being arrested and prosecuted. . . in most
places, laws do not strictly target nudism.
In most countries, it is simply illegal to be nude in a public place,
and law enforcement generally treats nudist venues as being exempt from that
law as everyone who visits agrees to be nude, and the venue is kept out of
public view. Many nudists advertise and
communicate their lifestyle through the media, and law enforcement treats their
lifestyle as a legitimate cause. Some
nudists are even police officers, judges or lawyers themselves. . . Nudism is
officially illegal in the state of Arkansas and in the countries of Iran, Iraq
and Saudi Arabia. Sometimes, the police
even make frivolous arrests, such as a crack-down on a nude beach, or arresting
typical parents who take innocent nude photos of their young children, but in
these cases, the court usually sees reason and dismisses the charges as
unlawful and unsubstantiated.” – David Hopkins, http://listverse.com/2011/02/23/top-10-misconceptions-about-nudism/

promoting naturism. Whenever I'm home

What the world badly needs is a deluge of decent nude photos. Most nude photos on the internet are
pornographic in nature and that may explain why the world thinks nudity is
sexual. The only way to correct this
imbalance is for there to be more online photos of decent nudity.” – TL Lim, http://www.naktiv.net/blog/1088/promoting-naturism-in-asia/

Most Memorable Hike
Thinking back about memorable freehikes, I guess my first memory is of my
first freehike.
I had naked experiences since a child, but they always
left me feeling guilty. When I was 52
years old, I discovered naturism on the Internet through a Mormon-related
naturist group, and realized for the first time that naturism could be okay. In fact, it could solve issues I had since a
youth. So I decided to take a freehike.
I drove a few minutes to the mouth of Parowan canyon,
found a dirt road that led to nowhere, got out of the truck, stripped, left my
clothes on a rock at the bottom of a small valley, and hiked up and down
nude. It was a short freehike, but the
world changed for me. I knew I would
never be the same.

the body that fines networks should they air bad words, or body parts,
including, of course, female breasts. . . If there were enough public pressure
for them to update their indecency standards so as to no longer define breasts
as ‘nudity’ it would probably have a huge national impact. . . Indeed, the FCC
has already proposed changing these standards before but they were met with
fierce resistance from parents’ groups and thus backed down. If there is enough public pressure on the
other side they could very well be convinced to reconsider.” – Freethinker, https://medium.com/@Guy4Progress/so-you-want-to-free-the-nipple-8aab3f5eadca#.1fbc3my9x
“Nude Run of Finland is an event for all open-minded
people who are interested in light sports in beautiful Finnish nature. In Nude Run of Finland you can run, walk or
nordic walk a route which has a maximum length of 10 kilometers. You are allowed to wear only shoes, socks and
something on your head. Additionally, women
can wear a top or correspondent. You can
choose the length of your route freely; your performance will be accepted if
you just start . . . The route goes along quiet forest roads without disturbing
too much the local people. After the run
you'll get coffee and something small to eat free of charge. Additionally, all participants are invited
for free sauna and swimming at Telaranta camping area nearby.” - http://hhela.mbnet.fi/naku10/english.html
“Some of what we would see as ‘nudist communities’ are
actually cultures where nakedness is a simply a way of life. There, being naked has never been an issue. .
. Many naturists join a nudist / naturist community to enjoy nudist activities
with other like-minded individuals.
Naturist communities also free their people from the judgment of
society.” – Jordan Blum, http://youngnaturistsamerica.com/practicing-nudism-and-naturism/

“Bay to Breakers had arrived. It was time for me to put my naked running
hobby to the test in a completely different situation. My previous naked runs had been easily
categorized either by being in complete nature, barefoot on a mostly deserted
beach, or in a naturist context . . . By contrast, this would be my longest
timed race . . . and my first naked run through a city with an assembled crowd
watching. . . After a long wait we set off.
As the crowd started to shuffle towards the start line I discarded my
redundant t-shirt and slipped off my shorts . . . Within the first km I
overtook another naked runner. . . At about km 3 I was over taken by the only
other naked runner I encountered: a very young guy with dreadlocks who I later
learned was the first naked runner across the finish line. I know there were more, but as I had started
near the front no one else caught up with me.
And not one of the many hundreds of police officers I passed gave me a
second glance or were at all interested in me. . . Three years after running
for the first time in my life I had completed my longest timed competitive
run. And my longest naked run. Through a beautiful city on a stunning
day. And I had completed the 12k in
under an hour. Naked. . . I love it.” - https://nakedmanrunning.me/2016/05/19/naked-run-15-bay-to-breakers/
“I don’t aspire for a world in which everyone is nude
all of the time. I do, however, aspire
for a world in which everyone has the right to choose how little or how much to
wear without being penalized. . . I wonder why we resort to telling people how
they ought to live their lives . . . Why do we insist that our way of doing
things is the only way to do them, that our definition of freedom is the
definition of freedom?” – hontouniheart, https://clothesfreelife.com/2016/08/25/wow-choice/
“A few weeks ago, I went to Oshkosh, Wisconsin for the
annual EAA Airventure, the world's largest airshow. I had to work most of the week and left on
Monday after the show ended on Sunday.
It was hot, so as soon as I got out of town, I took off my shorts and
drove the 330 miles home naked. . . Last weekend, my wife and I visited the
Avatan Resort in Minnesota, about 130 miles away. I started the naked weekend on Thursday night
about 10:00 pm, after coming home from the store. Friday morning, I packed up the camper and we
left at about noon. I was naked the
whole time. We drove the 1 hour,
45-minute drive and went in through the gate.
I was naked the whole drive . . . We spent the weekend at the resort and
left at 2:00 on Sunday. For the drive
home, I was totally naked, my wife now only had a large shirt on. . . When I
got home, my 24 year old daughter was home for the weekend, but she doesn't
care, so I stayed naked. I think this is
my longest naked period, Thurs at 10:00 pm until Mon morning at 7:30 am.” –

Most Memorable Hike
I'm thinking about memorable freehikes I've taken and will share some in the future.
What was your most memorable nude hike?
Here's an interesting memory by Great Nude:
“. . . my most memorable naked hike [was] some 6 years +
ago. It was with two nudist friends . .
. and we hiked nude for more [than] 5km without worries and enjoyed the freedom
and beautiful surrounding scenery in cool weather. A fantastic hike . . . wish I could do
another such hike again to relive the experience.” – GreatNude, https://www.truenudists.com/group/nude-hikers/1/115591/

“The bowling alley near my house went out of business
over the winter. I can’t remember seeing
a league night on their marquis in the last decade. My father recently lamented to me that
younger people don’t golf. . . And of course, us youngins don’t join nudist
clubs anymore. The fact is, we just
don’t join clubs. I’m forty and I
[don’t] know of one person my age who is a Mason. I don’t know anyone in a Knights of Columbus,
a Rotary, a Chamber of Commerce, an Elks Club nor anyone who is a member of a
Benevolent Association of Fill in the Blank.
Honestly, I have very few friends my age who belong to houses of worship
and those that do, rarely go on their prescribed day to worship. I can think of maybe five members of my nudie
club who are under forty and I met each of them at the club. . . the nudist
club community has to accept and adjust to what younger people want or younger
people will simply spend our time doing other things.” - http://nomadgeeknudie.tumblr.com/post/146104765897/why-young-nudists-dont-join-clubs?is_related_post=1

“There are many reasons given by us naturists to get
into the natural state and free your body and soul to the elements, but all of
those reasons are invalid if you don't really want to do it. There are many hundreds of males who . . .
try to pressure their wife to join them at a club or beach. . . [However,]
there are places and times to enjoy your own nudity without dragging an
unwilling partner along. (It can cause
marriage break-ups!) The thing I would
heartily ask . . . is to not be worried about other people knowing you are a
naturist. . . the only way we can get naturism more widely understood is to be
candid and sincerely honest. Maybe by
doing that we'll . . . find all those reluctant females (or males!) suddenly
thinking ‘That sounds so good and comfortable, I'll give it a whirl! Enjoy your lifestyle choice, at ease!” –

“Becky had planned to be nude for a few seconds and
then put her suit back on and get out of there.
But this felt way too good and she was having too much fun. She felt powerful and she didn’t want it to
end. She eyed the calm sea and figured
she was already nude, she might as well go for a little swim and complete the
experience. Becky got up from her chair
and walked towards the water at a brisk pace.
She didn’t feel the need to run, but she also didn’t want to take extra
time to get noticed. She peeked around the rock wall to make sure the coast was
still clear, literally. There was nobody
around, skinny dipping was a go! . . . After taking one more look down the
shore, Becky left the cover of the water and made it back to her clothes. She stood out in the open and felt the
warming sun on her body, letting the moment last a bit longer. She had done it, and she felt accomplished.” -

fear or revile the naked human body, or the general need to connect nakedness

“I'm 21 years old.
I have always loved being a naked.
However, I'm a Catholic and I'm not sure if nudism is the right
lifestyle. I believe in modesty and
chastity, but I don't know if nudism is compatible with that in any way. I have a big family, and I still live with
them, so getting naked has always been risky because I don't want them to find
out. I sometimes sneak out at night and
take off my clothes and walk around and even climb trees naked. I enjoy it a lot. Right now I'm sitting naked in full daylight
as I write this, and hopefully nobody will find me. I've never experienced social nudism, but
maybe someday I'll find a nudist beach or club when I move out and am on my
own.” – Anonymous, http://aanr.com/first-time-nudist-experience&page=5

“American ‘nudists’ have a tendency toward weirdness.
. . By that, I mean, we’ll lie by the pool all day and have casual conversation
about the genuine qualities of being naked in public, blah, blah, blah… but
then the sun goes down and everyone shows up in crazy lingerie outfits for the
‘grown-ups party.’” - https://meanderingnaturist.wordpress.com/2012/12/
“What little research has been done has generally not
been replicated. . . Thus, we are left with the advice of Dr. Spock, who warned
us of dire consequences resulting from children's exposure to nudity but who
performed no research of his own – apparently his conclusions were based on one
anecdotal incident involving his own son.
Dr. Joyce Brothers, who warns parents of ‘terrible guilts and
frustrations’ that children suffer from being exposed to normal nudity, also
performed no research of her own and apparently based her conclusions on her
work with emotionally disturbed children . . . some widely published ‘experts’
are not experts at all, but rather individuals with personal opinions who also
happen to be widely read by parents who trust that those opinions are based on
formal research.” – Bill Peckenpaugh, http://nudebeaches.co.nz/nudism_and_families.html
“This feels like a community where we’re celebrating
the human body. If someone’s
uncomfortable with the idea, there are other beaches. It’s uncomfortable for the nudists when clothed

“Do we cook in the nude? Ah, yep.
Sometimes we don an apron. And we
don't barbeque or deep fry in the nude - spattering oil would put you off
that. But for the usual, heating mashed
potatoes in the microwave while broiling pork chops, we're likely to be in our
birthday suit. It's more
comfortable. Ditto for setting the table
and, often, sitting around that table.
When we come home most of us want to be naked so we get naked.” – Bare

“One of the great discoveries for me that came with
joining a nudism/naturism organization is the hot tub experience — I had never
been in one. Now, I wonder how I ever
lived without it. . . I love the communal hot tub experience: there’s nothing
like soaking with 85 of your friends, as I did last night . . . But always in
the buff, of course. I can’t imagine
being in a hot tub with a swim suit on.
That just seems to defeat the whole purpose to me — which is to let
104-degree F water soothe as much of your body as possible.” – Jillian Page, http://jillianpage.com/2014/10/05/nudismnaturism-hot-tubs/
“Simple nudity is not sin or we could not go in a
steam room, shower at a gym or go see a Dr.
Why is it OK for Dr. and nurses to see us nude because they went to
college? Our society has created an
unhealthy view of nudity, now always linked with sex to that point that breast
feeding is frowned upon. Pornography and
sexually explicit TV has warped the view of nudity to be ugly or
perverted. We have been taught that
different sizes, races and aged bodies are gross and something to be ashamed
of. What has that gotten us, but a world
where we get grossed out or ashamed by nudity.” – Nate Dekan, https://www.truenudists.com/groups/view.php?action=viewthread&id=2925&idt=17173&vpage=1
“A sad day for the arts - There’s outrage . . . over
Italy’s decision . . . to cover up prized marble works of antiquity showing
human figures in the nude at the Capitoline Museums. . . Because authorities
were worried visiting Iranian President Hassan Rouhani might be offended during
his tour of the museums. They also
didn’t serve wine at a dinner in Rouhani’s honor, in accordance with protocols
governing visits by Muslim dignitaries. . . the authorities are taking a lot of
heat for it in the both traditional and social media. Many see the cover-up as political
correctness run amok.” - http://montrealgazette.com/storyline/trending-on-twitter-a-sad-day-for-the-arts
“There is no denying that the most beautiful creation
on Earth is the naked human body. But
how many of us ... actually profess it proudly and unashamedly? Have you ever stood up and defended your
nudity openly to others and defended other Nudists? . . . The public acceptance
of Nudity begins with each and every one of us.
Let's all stand up and be proud of who we are. Our bodies are nothing to be ashamed of. Go out, witness to family and friends and
spread the good news!” – Creative, https://www.truenudists.com/groups/view.php?action=viewthread&id=2925&idt=20099&vpage=1
