QUOTES 4/30/2019

“. . . for me what really ‘seals the deal’ on naturism is being nude in nature.  Clothing always strikes me now as sort of a barrier between me and the Earth.  I revel in the freedom of movement, in the feel of the cool Earth beneath bare feet, and the breeze on my naked skin.  It is a spiritual and fulfilling experience for me.” - Peter O., Maryland, https://www.aanr.com/veterans-and-nudism&page=5

“This last Sunday, after the morning service, I found my wife talking with our (female) senior pastor.  She was enthusing about the naturist holiday we have just booked for March, in Lanzarote, and encouraging her to visit Infiniti on Fuerteventura in one of the non-naturist weeks.  She then started talking about the clothes-optional days we enjoy at Abbey House Gardens.  All this time, someone else from the church family was standing just to one side, waiting to talk with the pastor.  So I think there is now someone else who has a fairly good idea of our interests and activities in this area.” – Sanuachap

“If you feel good naked, there’s no way you won’t feel amazing in clothes.  Once you are comfortable with your body, you will be able to choose the right clothes that actually fit your body type. . . it’s not the clothes that make us, it’s the way we feel about ourselves that make us who we are.” – Rissa, http://www.thetalko.com/12-reasons-why-you-should-be-naked-more-often/

QUOTES 4/29/2019

“How much time do we actually spend naked?  Is it possible to really be at peace with your body if you never spend much time with it?  This strange juggling act that we play between our bodies being for aesthetic and sexual purposes, and as a machine that allows our continued existence means that we are always worried about the maintenance and upkeep but never look at the product itself. . . Getting naked now means actively embracing my machine and just being.  It takes time to work through the immediate rejection after spending a life clothed.  But I feel powerful when it’s just me stripped down.  Get vulnerable with yourself until you aren’t anymore.” - https://medium.com/@willingmovement/get-naked-no-actually-do-it-1d1904c5c783?swoff=true#.vvsah3820

“I have advocated . . . that we nudists be more activist in our approach to ending discrimination against our lifestyle and gaining the freedoms we desire.  I have chastised the vast majority of us who are too timid to reveal their participation in nude recreation, and I have urged everyone to emerge from their closets, get off their towel-covered sofas, and help carry the banner for social nudism.  I’ve said we must stop acting like our lifestyle is something to be ashamed of or embarrassed about.” - https://clothesfreelife.com/2016/11/03/we-are-who-we-are-guest-essay-bill-bowser/

“By definition, naturists are physically active, eat healthy food, avoid unhealthy habits, seek mental and spiritual advancement, and encourage others to understand so they also live in true health.” – AllNudist

“The worst people for fat-shaming are women themselves . . . A good place to start with feeling better about your own body . . . is to spend more time without any clothes on.  I don't mean standing in front of a full-length mirror and appraising yourself from top to toe . . . Instead, start doing your hair and putting on your make-up before you get dressed.  You'll automatically catch glimpses of your body and realize you look OK.  'When we're naked we feel vulnerable and open to rejection.  It might be a cliché, but the more accepting you are of yourself the less afraid of rejection you become.” - Jo Painter, http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-3835249/Would-let-friends-naked-s-idea-horrify-key-loving-body.html

THE NAKED 4-H’s
By Ken Sunwalker

One bright, sunny day in the forest, Goldilocks met the three bears, and asked “why are you bare”?
Good question!

How would you answer Goldilocks?  Why are you a bare-naked person?

Not an easy question to answer; with so many complex and detailed answers.

The solution is to “Keep It Simple”.  The 4-H approach makes it easy to remember and answer this question in a SIMPLE way.

What are the four H’s?  - Happy, Healthy, Human, and Honest.

Happy

For me, this is the most important answer to why I enjoy being a naked person.

The sun and breeze caressing my entire body makes me realize exactly how much I miss by covering the majority of my skin – the largest sense organ.  I can avoid the burden of uncomfortable, ill-fitting clothes that shut out the world.  The naked FEELING is amazing!

Naked is FUN!  Remember skinny-dipping?  Playing naked is like being a carefree child again.  No wonder it’s such a challenge keeping clothes on young children.

I believe freedom is essential to happiness.  I feel free when I’m nude.  I forget my every-day cares.  And I am not so influenced by other’s opinions and cultures and fashions.

Since nakedness Feels good, is Fun, and sets me Free, it makes me HAPPY.  It’s that simple.

Ask yourself if your current approach to living makes you Happy.  If it’s not fun and freeing, it’s wrong for you.  And since you have a choice, why not feel Happy, fun, and free, rather than scared, serious, and sad?  Get naked!

Healthy

Here’s another important answer about why I live a naked lifestyle:

Naked keeps my mind SHARP!  Exhibitionism, voyeurism, inappropriate sexual thoughts, sexy behavior, pornography, and the like simply disappear in the light of naked reality.  Naked, my mind can focus on spirituality and creativity and truth.

A naked life makes me STRONG.  Naked in the sunlight, my body soaks in lots of healthy vitamin D.  Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) disappears.  My love of nature and the outdoors grows, so I’m motivated to engage in natural activity and exercise.  Not only that, but nudity encourages me to eat right and avoid unhealthy habits.  No weight disorders here!

And these healthy benefits reduce everyday STRESS.  Why worry?  Many people believe that going naked causes stress; instead it helps me get rid of it.  Nakedness brings calmness, complete relaxation, and comfort.  Nothing restricts or confines me.  Inhibitions and shame disappear.  Naked meditation and yoga fit well here.  I am less self-conscious.  My naked life is great!

So, a naked life helps me be HEALTHY - Sharp, Strong, and Stress-free.

Again, ask yourself if your current approach to living makes you Healthy.  If not, it’s wrong for you.  And since you have a choice, why not be mentally and physically Healthy, and stress-free, rather than slow, sick, and worried?  Get naked!

Human

Naked, I am very Human, so less judgmental, with a realistic body image, and positive social interaction.

JUDGMENTAL?  Naked I realize that everyone has different ideas and desires.  After all, they are simply being human.  They don’t “have” to agree with my opinions, and I don’t have to agree with theirs.  All can make a contribution.

I’m realistic about BODY IMAGE.  Seeing other’s bodies confirms that no one is perfect, so I quickly discard comparisons and negative thoughts.  I see everyone’s body as beautiful – flaws, scars, weight (or lack thereof) don’t get in the way anymore.

With a non-judgmental attitude, and lack of concern about body image, it’s easier to be SOCIABLE, to make new acquaintances and friends.  I enjoy spending time naked talking in the pool or hot tub or on a mountain trail or playing a game.  This is not a sexual closeness, but a feeling about shared beliefs and attitudes and activities.  My very closest, most trusted friends are naked people like me.

Again, ask yourself if your current approach to living is realistic for a human being.  If you’re striving to be something other than human, it’s wrong for you.  And since you have a choice, why not be truly Human, less judgmental, with realistic body image, and sociality, rather than trying to be non-human – impossible - and ending up a biased hermit?  Get naked!

Honest

Finally, nakedness helps me be me.  I’m more open and truthful and confident and humble, so I am real.

Naked, I 'm completely OPEN; I am totally in my natural state.  Since I was a child, I enjoyed being naked.  (Most children do by the way.)   Now, as a naked person I am open to reality and truth.  I accept who I am and why I’ve felt the way I did throughout my life.  This does not mean I disregard other interests and talents, but as a naked person I don’t concern myself with others’ opinions; rather, I follow my own interests and truth and love being me!

I’m CONFIDENT!  No fear!  Out of fear, some people become home-only, secret nudists, hiding behind walls and curtains, who run to get clothed if a visitor arrives.  They don’t display naked statues and photos.  Still others reserve naked adventures for vacations far from home where only strangers will see them - no one they know will know.  That’s not me.  Being happy, healthy, and human makes me confident, and that makes me attractive.  I tell others who I am.  I’m not afraid to appear naked.  I don’t hide or deny my nakedness.  I won’t get dressed just to please others.  I am who I am.

I’m HUMBLE.  Humility is a strength; it doesn’t mean you’re a push-over for others.  Humility means being open, being teachable, and being willing to share with others.  A Humble person accepts the Truth when it appears, so humility naturally brings a person closer to deity - spirituality increases.  Nakedness therefore helps one live a more spiritual life.  Misguided beliefs, fear, hiding, secrets – God will guide the “Humble”, spiritually-oriented naked person to overcome these false concerns and accept and share the truth.  You are reading this because you were guided to it

Finally, ask yourself if your current approach to living is honest.  If you can’t be open, confident, and humble, it’s wrong for you.  And since you have a choice, why not be Honest - open, determined, and humble.  Don’t try to live a lie.  Nothing will be right!  Get naked today!

The Answer

Why live a naked lifestyle?  Why build a naked home and yard?  Why talk to others about naked truths?  Why hold naked events?  I’ve often wondered these things, but now I understand.  And to keep things simple and easy to remember, if asked, I just say I live a naked lifestyle because it makes me HAPPY, HEALTHY, HUMAN, and HONEST.

“The big problem with today’s society – people worry too much.  Too many people are self-conscious about how they look or what people think of them, and they’re afraid to truly respect themselves. . . it’s the same with us nudists, too many people fear that people will think they are a whore or a pervert. . . they don’t understand. . . Just be yourself – and part of that is knowing who you truly are.  You should never be afraid to show that!  When you are not wearing anything, you are completely open, you are totally at your natural state, and everything can breathe.  And when every part of you can get the ‘fresh air’ it deserves, it truly makes you happy, and when you are happy, you truly become confident.  And when you are confident, people, that’s what makes you attractive.  And when you truly are comfortable in your own skin, you don’t really care about what you look like with clothes on.  You know you are happy, you don’t give a crap what other people think of you, and you can confidently do anything and truly be happy!” – Bucky, https://cloptzone.wordpress.com/2014/11/08/fellow-nudist-friends-you-are-all-attractive-we-are-truly-the-most-attractive-people-in-the-world/

“In the present article we report results of the first longitudinal investigation of long-term correlates of exposure to parental nudity . . . 204 families were enlisted during the mid-1970s as part of a multidisciplinary investigation of emergent family life-styles . . . Children were followed from birth to . . . age 17-18. . . . Outcome measures . . . included: (i) self-acceptance; (ii) relations with parents, peers, and other adults; (iii) drug use; (iv) antisocial and criminal behavior; (v) suicidal ideation; (vi) social ‘problems’ (3) associated with sexual behavior (getting pregnant or having gotten someone pregnant, and getting an STD); and (vii) quality of sexual relationships, attitudes, and beliefs. . . To determine extent of exposure to nudity . . . parents were asked two questions in a face-to-face interview . . . ‘Does mother (father) go nude in front of child?’ and ‘Does mother (father) bathe or shower with the child?’ . . . (25%) children were not exposed to any parental nudity, . . (44%) . . . were exposed with moderate frequency, and (31%) . . . were exposed frequently. . . A number of trends were found that were significant at p [less than] 0.05 . . . Exposure to parental nudity predicted lower likelihood of sexual activity in . . . adolescence, but more positive sexual experiences among that group of participants who were sexually active.  Exposure to parental nudity also predicted reduced instances of petty theft and shoplifting . . . exposure to parental nudity was associated . . . with reduced use of drugs . . . Exposure to parental nudity was associated with positive, rather than negative, sexual experiences in adolescence, but with reduced sexual experience overall. . . All findings were independent of the effects of . . . sex of participant, family stability, pathology, ‘pronaturalism,’ and beliefs and attitudes toward sexuality.  aken as a whole then, effects are few, but generally beneficial in nature.  Thus, results of this study add weight to the views of those who have opposed alarmist characterizations of childhood exposure both to nudity and incidental scenes of parental sexuality. . . Why is it so widely believed in the United States and certain European nations that these practices are uniformly detrimental to the mental health of children? . . . Such notions, certainly where exposure to parental nudity is concerned, are perhaps better conceptualized as myths.” - Early childhood exposure to parental nudity and scenes of parental sexuality (‘primal scenes’): an 18-year longitudinal study of outcome, 1998, Paul Okami, Richard Olmstead, Paul R. Leaving our clothes in a safe place, taking only a small satchel with supplies, we decided to go for a long hike through the forest, along the marsh, and hopefully explore a beach on the other side of the island we'd not ventured to before. Hiking nude is different because your body must physically navigate variable terrain. . . Seeing your partner's body perform the work of climbing, stepping, hopping, walking, and balancing is a completely different experience. . . “Historically, Catholic tolerance for nudity of any kind has waxed and waned.  During the Renaissance Era, best remembered for the works of artists like Michelangelo, works of art and statuary depicting nude figures sometimes drew criticism from the Church hierarchy.  In particular, the nudity depicted in the Sistine Chapel drew condemnation from Pope Adrian VI and other highly placed members of the clergy.  The Pope wanted to see the images stripped completely; however, only a few images were altered in later years to conceal nude images in accordance with an official degree, associated with the Council of Trent in 1563, condemning the use of nudity in religious art.  Today, the Sistine Chapel is among the most visited and revered areas open to public viewing via the Vatican Museums. The artistic nudity depicted here is no longer a point of major contention. The museum, including the chapel, have become a source of revenue and positive public relations for the Church.” – Jordan Blum, https://youngnaturistsamerica.com/catholicism-and-nudism/

“When a person starts to get outside with the sun and wind on their skin they tend to start appreciating the natural world more.  This is why I use the term Naturism instead of Nudism.  The practice is not just about being nude.  It is getting back to a natural condition physically, psychologically and socially.  Extending that perspective outside of yourself allows for an appreciation of others and the world around you.” – Cayanet

“It's one of those warm, dry, late summer days.  You arrive at the beach with just the bare essentials - towel, sunscreen, snacks, and some beach toys.  You pick a spot near other families - perhaps your kids will meet a new friend or two?  Once you spread out your towel, your ‘changing room’ is ready.  You drop your clothes on the towel - or possibly put them in plastic bags to keep them separate and free of sand.  No hassle, no problem, no smelly bathroom with filthy floors - and you know where your kids are at all times.  With the sunscreen applied and a good book in hand, you settle back and enjoy the complete caress of the sun and gentle sea breeze.  You notice in passing that the kids have selected an ideal sandcastle site (out of throwing distance from you), and have invited some neighboring children to help.  The kids go at their castle-building with gusto, and the sand gets everywhere.  You're not concerned though, as cleanup will be a snap.  When it's time to go, you herd the kids towards the shallow water where they can rinse off all the extra sand.  You pick up your youngest and assist them in rinsing off - perhaps using a bucket if the water is too cold or rough to stand in.  Since there are no swimsuits to worry about, the cold is over quickly - in fact by the time you've helped everyone else into their clothes, you're practically dry.  You rinse your feet off with a bucket of water before stepping into your shorts.  How convenient, and how very natural - just another wonderful day at the beach.” – Alan P

“It’s unhealthy for naturists to gather together to drink and smoke as if getting naked somehow encourages these obviously unhealthy practices.  On the contrary, naturism discourages these nasty habits.  It's unhealthy for naturists to neglect mental and spiritual stimulation, and hide from others.  Demonstrating that they are different, not sheeple, by stepping outside the constraints of society and culture, and rejecting the negative effects of textilism and sexual perversion, naturists should be seekers after all truth and leaders and teachers and missionaries.  All of these healthy behaviors and attitudes are important to ‘real’ naturism, and neglecting them has been an unhealthy change to the practice of naturism.  It’s time again to re-emphasize health in naturism.” - Kenfreehiker

“I am a figure model and have been nude many times in the studio before.  It has led me to be a person who has discovered the freedom in nudity and understands it.  It really is a beautiful realization to have in knowing that every body is beautiful for its own unique, individual being.  And so I think the naturists tend to be very brave and strong people.” – Samantha Marie, http://cruisebare.com/my-first-nudist-experience-by-samantha-marie/

“I think the best part about being raised nudist is that being nude has no connection to sex for me.  There was nothing indecent about my growing up and my parents are not exhibitionists and my mom didn't parade herself around in front of a bunch of guys for a thrill.  That is just simply gross.” – Krissy, https://youngnaturistsamerica.com/nudist-moms-home-nude-family-nudism-etiquette-kids/

“I found myself walking around one of Brittan’s oldest naturist resorts . . . pausing to swim in its pool, and rest in the shade of its magnificent trees, wondering to myself ‘Why has it taken me almost half a century to discover this delightful pastime?’” - Philip Carr-Gomm, A Brief History of Nakedness, 2013, p. 259

“I started noticing an urge to be nude when I was about 14-15 years old, but I wasn’t educated on the life style and thought it was kinda wrong to do it . . . My parents are a bit old fashioned, but eventually they did start to support me. . . About 9 years ago it was a killer hot day and because I have no A/C I decided to quit clothes and found myself researching the lifestyle. I love it!” – Eric, http://www.nakedwanderings.com/2017/01/19/naturist-talks-eric-canada/

“Almost any activity can be done naked.  Start practicing naturism by doing some daily chores clothes free.  You'll love it.” - https://twitter.com/ohionaturist/status/817778066646794242

“With naked yoga, it is all about knowing, embracing and loving yourself at your core.  A big part of naked yoga involves honoring and connecting with your body.” - http://spotnaked.com/naked-yoga-6-benefits-get-naked-yoga/5691/
