School Security System

Because of the mania of the recent Florida school shooting, many are pushing to ban assault rifles in order to secure the safety of students and others.  Although I personally don’t believe this proposed solution will solve much (after all, a pipe bomb, a truck of fertilizer, a car, and even a pressure cooker have all been used recently to create havoc with even greater loss of life), if people want something banned, who cares?  I believe this push is mostly political and won’t accomplish much anyway.

In general, I believe we need to bring security issues closer to home, to each school, instead of creating/depending on new and costly distant government programs and solutions.  With this in mind, here is an approach/system that might actually solve the problem, without unreasonable cost:

1.  Select/train existing teachers as a concealed-carry “School Security Team” (SST).  (Many teachers would agree to do this for even a little extra cash.)  They could carry guns in case of emergency situations (which seldom happen anyway).  They could also be scheduled to man unlocked doors, and they would more likely recognize problem people.  This would cause some perpetrators to think twice before attacking a school (how often do these types of people attack an armed police station?).

2.  Create a “Security Hot-Line” (SHL), manned by existing school personnel, which everyone with a security concern in and out of the school district could call.

3.  Create/teach a class (for students and others) about the importance of acting responsibly and how to handle emergency situations.

By the way, naturists don’t have to worry about most of these issues anyway, because frankly, where can a naked person hide a gun?
